Pinion walked over, projecting as much confidence as it could. The storks had made it clear many times that they disdained weakness in others, and the nearest stork's treatment of the sparrow was no exception.

"You there, stork!" it said, its voice stern as it came close enough to face the bald-headed bird through the fence. The stork very slightly reeled back as if it felt unwilling for Pinion to be close, although the movement was so subtle that any bird not specifically watching for it might have missed it entirely. Pinion noticed, though. It always noticed when other birds backed off. "I saw that! What did that sparrow ever do to you?"

The stork glanced at one of the others and chuckled uneasily, but it answered Pinion well enough. "I'm bored," it said with a shrug that hunched its wings. "Little fuck deserved it anyway."

Well, if you can't see the holes in that logic I definitely can, but you're the one making the choices here. How would you like Pinion to respond?
