You know, that's kind of heart-warming. I'm half-expecting a fight, though. Let's see what happened next.
Pinion ruffled its feathers in anger. "You should bully a bird your own size."
The stork said nothing but strode toward Pinion as if there was no fence between them to protect it - or Pinion.
Later, Pinion would think back on this moment and try to make sense of it. The flamingo felt threatened and in part Pinion felt as if it should back away, but rather than cowering its body remained tall and strong, determined to see its approach through. It felt its senses sharpen and part of it wanted to laugh at the stork for daring to threaten it, as if the lanky grey bird was wielding something it had no right to wield. The stork kicked the fence - hard enough to rattle that section of the fence plus the two to either side - and Pinion laughed: a wide-beaked, staring, manic laugh it hadn't planned and sounded unhinged even to itself.
The fence rattled between them and for a moment, the stork lost all of its momentum as the flamingo laughed in its face. When Pinion finally regained control the stork ruffled its own feathers and took a step back. "Not fighting a nutter like you," it muttered and stalked away.
I think you might just have scared the stork off! Now Pinion needs to think about what to do next.
