"Surely it's only going to come back?" the flamingo pointed out. Sure enough it could already see two or three sparrows - was the original sparrow among them? It couldn't tell - on top of the fence looking down into the enclosure. They were probably eyeing up scraps of food to swoop down and grab. "And it wasn't doing any harm. What's the point in chasing it away?"

The stork looked distinctly unimpressed and stared balefully at Pinion for a moment. Then it said, "Whatever," and wandered away.

Pinion looked at the next-nearest stork but it had noticed the two conversing and apparently didn't want to be involved, so it turned to face another direction.
