Pinion turned its head towards the stork cage. Five of the tall grey birds stood at various points around the enclosure, and Pinion wondered if they were deliberately keeping a distance from one another. It certainly couldn't remember seeing them ever be outwardly affectionate towards each other.
As it watched, a sparrow flew into the cage and landed on the grass. One of the storks noticed and watched it for a few moments as the tiny bird bounced around, probably seeking morsels of food. Without warning the stork opened its wings - it would have had an impressive wingspan if it hadn't been trimmed - and charged the sparrow.
Unsurprisingly the sparrow flew away, its wings whirring so fast that Pinion almost couldn't see them any more.
The stork looked pleased with itself and tucked its wings away. The other storks didn't even seem to notice this brief incident.
Pinion needs to decide what to do now.
- Ask the stork what the sparrow did to deserve that treatment |
- Keep a distance and watch for more clues about their behaviour |
