The Old Menagerie

"Quick!" Sir Escart says, "You need to drop the mint! He'll be fascinated by the mint and will leave you... alone." The Dungeon Master trails off as he realises you don't have the mint. Jasper's attack is still imminent but the urgency is gone from Escart's voice. You don't like how he sounds as if he's given up on the situation. You haven't.

You whisper in the hope that only Sir Escart will be able to hear. Certainly you can't hear yourself over your own heartbeat. "I can make it." You bunch your legs, and make a burst for the exit.

Old Jasper catches up with you easily. Those extra jaws that cover his body are a symbol of his overbearing desire to eat the visitors he saw during his life as a captive bear, and his complete powerlessness to do what came naturally. As a ghost he remained consumed with the desire to catch, and eat. Now he tears into you with relish.

How utterly gruesome. Perhaps you would like to start your journey again?
