Pinion held its breath and willed this conversation to go in its favour. It could have squirmed for joy when the stork looked flattered.

"Tried pulling the wire once," it said, balancing on one leg to grip at the fence with its claws. It pulled at it for effect and the fence rattled but held firm. "And tried scaring the keeper. Nothing worked. What else can we do?"
