The awkward is strong with this one. Okay, good luck...

Pinion opened its beak in an avian smile as it looked from cluster to cluster of the parakeets to decide on which to address itself to. It lay down and gazed up at its group of choice. "Good evening," it said. It hoped that that would be an inoffensive enough start.

"Good evening?" echoed back a few of the little green birds, their expressions wary, as if they expected Pinion to try something. Which Pinion couldn't deny that it was, but it didn't think there was anything wrong with requesting information.

"I was just thinking about how nice it is that you always go around in pairs and threes. We don't do that so much," it said, nodding at the relatively scattered population of flamingos. "I envy you for being so close with each other that you can do that."

All that earned Pinion was an array of blank stares.

"Well," Pinion continued, feeling self-conscious all of a sudden. "I just wanted to say how lucky I think you are for having that."

The parakeets moved a little as they glanced at each other. They shifted their feet nervously and a few mumbled, "Right," "Okay," and other similar meaningless comments.

Was this truly going to go nowhere? "I don't get to do that," the flamingo tried as a last effort.

That prompted a few more, noncommittal replies of, "Oh, well. You know..." and the like from the parakeets. Then one looked away and said, "The seed tray's free," and flew away. The others followed it and left Pinion on its own.

Hoo boy. Well, that's that. Pinion's clearly not going to get much out of the parakeets but you do need to make a choice. There's quite a lot of them to make so why don't you go to the hub section for that?
