"How can I get out of this cage?" it asked the crow, breaking the silence. It expected the crow to answer quickly - Pinion judged that it was a quick thinker. But it didn't, and uncomfortable silence fell between them. "Crow?" it prompted.
"I'm sorry flamingo," it said, its tone decisive, "but I won't help you."
Pinion shifted restlessly and tried to fit its beak through one of the holes of the cage to try and get a little bit closer to the crow. "'Won't'? Do you mean 'can't'?"
That prompted another silence and the crow seemed to steel itself before answering. When it spoke it looked Pinion in the eye, its expression firm. "Maybe both but I won't try. Don't misunderstand me," it continued quickly as Pinion tried to ask it why it wouldn't at least try to help, "I won't stop you from leaving but I won't help you either. I'm not stupid." And before the flamingo could ask what it meant, the crow took flight and left, leaving Pinion on its own.
And apparently, that's as far as the crow wants to go. There's just one option for now. Don't worry though, there are heaps of options there!
