Aww. It looks like we're on our way to a little heart to heart. Okay then, let's go!
Pinion felt pressure rising inside its breast and half-unfurled its wings, but then realised that the crow was right. It did sound angry, but the crow didn't deserve to be the target. The flamingo sighed. "I am. You look so free out there and I'm just, just..." It looked around at the utter oppression in which it lived. Fences, humans, food delivered in a bucket, and a flock that was a feather's breadth from outright rejecting Pinion for it-knew-not what reason. "Trapped," it said, giving up on finding any word that better described the feeling.
The crow went pensively quiet. "What would make you happy, flamingo?"
"To escape," Pinion said instantly. "To see the world. There must be so much out there that I've never seen and if I don't get out of here I never will." Despite the gloom of the evening it noticed the dubious look on the crow's face. "You do understand what I mean, don't you?"
The crow hopped from one foot to the other, restless all of a sudden. "Listen flamingo, don't take this the wrong way, but I think this is the right place for you."
Pinion's heart sank. "What do you mean?" it asked, even as it realised that in all this time, the crow had never ventured close to the cage.
The crow hesitated before answering. "I get the feeling you should stay in your cage. Don't ask me why, but you would be better off if you stayed. Every creature would." It said the following half under its breath and then turned and flew away.
"Wait!" called Pinion, but it was too late. The crow was gone.
Well, that leaves Pinion at something of a loose end. Ready to move on? You've got several options but they're in the next section.
